From the Assistant Principals

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to families and students on the transitions between school and remote learning. We are always taken aback by the seamless way families support their students’ learning from home and appreciate the communication that goes along with this. Our wellbeing check each morning allowed us to track students who needed support and offer this in a timely manner which assisted the learning process for all students. Thank you!
Green and Gold Day
In celebration of making it back on-site and the Olympics starting, we held a ‘Green and Gold’ day to build our community and national spirit upon our return.
Year 12 Parent Teacher Interviews
Our Year 12 Parent Teacher Interviews are fast approaching with this marking the first time we will run them online. Further information will be sent to Year 12 parents and carers over the coming days and we will review the efficiency and effectiveness of holding these online afterwards. The regular booking system through Xuno will still apply. We look forward to seeing our Year 12 parents and carers then.

GEC House Athletics
The annual Glen Eira College house athletics day will be held on Friday 13 August at Moorabbin Athletics Centre.
All students should dress in their house colours/theme or full PE uniform and arrive on time for a normal start to the day. The day will begin with Year Level Assemblies.
All students will need to ensure that they have lunch, snacks, a drink bottle and a hat. There is no canteen at Moorabbin Athletics Centre. The event will still run if weather is cold or windy, so students should bring warm clothes, such as their black college tracksuit pants and jacket/jumper.
Ages are taken as at December 31st in the year of competition (i.e. The age your child turns in 2021).
TRANSPORT
Students in Years 7-12 will depart immediately after Year Level Assembly by bus. Students in Year 12 will leave last.
At the conclusion of the day students will travel by bus and return to the college. We expect to return to school by 3:07pm for those travelling on buses. If your child will not be returning by bus once the day concludes then please notify the school by Wednesday 11th August.
PARENTAL PERMISSION
The “Whole School Sport” permission form gives consent for all house sport carnivals - swimming, cross country and athletics. If you have already approved this activity, you do not need to do this again.
Parental permission is required for new students to attend house athletics day. This should be given online through XUNO or see the General Office if you need a paper copy of the form.
HOUSE NAMES AND COLOURS
Each house has dedicated colour and for this year’s athletics, the House Captains have also nominated a theme for the fancy dress competition. Themes and colours are listed below:
RUBY (RED) - Food
SAPPHIRE (BLUE) - Cartoons
TOPAZ (GOLD) - Animals
EMERALD (GREEN) - Reptiles
All students are encouraged to dress in their colours and within the corresponding theme.
MOBILE PHONES
As per our mobile phone policy, phones may not be used at the venue. If seen at the venue, phones will be confiscated and placed in a box located at the first aid station. At the conclusion of the day, students will be able to collect their phones. Portable speakers, soccer balls and footballs are also prohibited.
PARENT ATTENDANCE
Unfortunately, current COVID restrictions prevent parents from attending the athletics carnival.
MARSHALLING
To compete in an event students will need to attend that event when called and sign up. Competitors must report to the marshal as soon as the announcer calls the event. The program times are to be used as a guide and teachers and athletes need to monitor the scheduling of the program. Athletes marshal directly to field events and to the appropriate starting area for track events.
CLASHES
Track events take priority over field events and it is the responsibility of the competitor to report to the field event official prior to competing in a track event. If an athlete has a track event and a field event on at the same time, they must compete in the track event first.
Program times are an estimate only.
