Freaky Friday

It has been a while coming, but we hope we have our final Performances dates for GEC’s production of Freaky Friday! Opening Night is on Tuesday 31st August, VIP Night on Wednesday 1st September and Closing Night on Thursday 2nd September. Despite all of the time passed since auditions and rehearsals beginning in 2020 (and all of the interruptions including multiple lockdowns) we are still one of the first schools in Australia to be performing this show!

We are also planning to have a full day rehearsal and matinee performance to some of our local primary schools on Monday 30th August.

Tickets for the show will hopefully be on sale from the start of week 5 - at this stage we are working on the pre-lockdown idea that there will be reduced capacity. More specific information will be out soon.

The staff and students in the cast, crew, and orchestra have put many many hours of work and effort into finally making this production a reality - we are planning for it to go ahead and we know it will be very good!

Synopsis

The new musical, Freaky Friday, based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, features a book by Bridget Carpenter – the co-executive producer and writer on the beloved TV hits, “Friday Night Lights” and “Parenthood” – and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey – the Pulitzer Prize- winning composers of Next to Normal and If/Then.

When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just 24 hours before Mom’s big wedding to put things right again. Freaky Friday is a hilarious, contemporary update of the classic story, in which a mother and daughter see what it means to be a family while experiencing each other’s lives firsthand, if only for a day.

Set in the present day, Freaky Friday features a tuneful pop-rock score, befitting a work that has effortlessly updated throughout its several iterations. Warm hearted, humorous and touching, this fresh take on the classic story is perfect for family audiences of all ages.
