WORK EXPERIENCE

XAVIER FLORAMO

At the start of the school holidays, I completed a week at Lime Avenue Radiology for work experience placement. I chose to complete my placement there as I am currently looking at a future career in Medical Imaging. During my time there, I was hoping to learn more about Medical Imaging and what was required of me to achieve a future in that field. It was a great opportunity as I was able to gain some insight on what the job centred around and the necessary pathway for someone to reach their desired occupation. The staff there were very welcoming and friendly, and I had a great time overall. Going forward, I would recommend other students considering this amazing opportunity in doing some work experience at a business or company.

CAITLIN D'AMICO

I completed work experience at The Italian, and I chose to do it there because I love to cook. During my placement, I was hoping to learn the daily tasks completed by someone who works in the food industry, to help me decide what career path I should go down. This amazing experience gave me a good idea of what it is like working in the food industry and some challenges faced. Some tasks that I completed during my placement were making cannoli shells, fillings cannoli, making lasagna, assembling burgers, and of course washing dishes. I would definitely recommend other students to participate in the work experience program as it allows them to see what exactly certain professions do every day and might help them decide that career path they want to go down.

MADDALENA PETROLO

I completed work experience at Elegance Hair Mildura in the first week of the school holidays. I chose to complete work experience in the industry of hairdressing, as I’ve always been interested in this type of work and wanted to get a feel of the work place before I made any decisions for my career path in the future. Before beginning the placement I expected to not be doing much, since you can’t without qualifications, but to learn new skills through watching others and observe how the staff not only did customers hair but how they interacted with them as well. Throughout the week knowledge gained was primarily based of visual learning and some practical learning. I was able to wash, dry, and style a mannequin’s hair, helping me to obtain a deeper understanding of some of the task’s hairdressers undertake. I would most definitely recommend work experience to students unsure of career paths, debating career paths and even students who are certain on what they want to do once they have completed school. Work experience is an amazing opportunity available to students, and really helps you to get a feel of the industry before making any decisions for your future.

KAITLIN HARDS

During the Term 2 school holidays I completed work experience at the Mildura Private Hospital. I chose to do my placement in the hospital because of my interest in medicine. My placement allowed me to get an idea of the variety of jobs available in the medical field and what I would be required to do in each of them. Work experience surpassed my expectations, as it exposed me to so many things and really helped me to get an idea of what I want to do in the future. I would definitely recommend it for other students who are unsure of what they want to do.

KYAN DAVIES

For my work experience placement, I was a labourer at CPM Contractors for 5 days total. During my work experience I had an excellent time with the people, guiding me through my work experience journey, they taught me everything I should know towards my goal for being a carpenter. I was at different sites and different facilities each day and not just doing the same jobs at each work site. The work experience program is highly beneficial if you are looking to get into a trade of some kind. It boosts your chances of what you want to do and lets you feel around if being a tradie is your type of job, and duties you’d be doing in the next fifty years in time.
