The design process in action
The core of the Design Technology curriculum is about the process designers use to develop products. The remit for what these products could be is fairly wide within the Technology scope; engineered robots, contemporary furniture, fusion food dishes, sustainable textile garments, digital media, the list goes on.
Whichever avenue or medium is used, the process stays the same;
- Identify a need or context for the design
- Research ideas, materials and end-user requirements
- Develop design ideas
- Plan the production
- Manufacture
- Evaluate the product/process
In the example below (Theavy Tin’s VCE Product Design Lightning project), we get an insight into the more creative aspects of the process. This is the development from brainstorming and mood boarding to completion of the final product.
