My Career Insights

Year 9 Program

Year 9 students have recently completed their Morrisby Interviews, which is the final component of the My Career Insights Program. This year we had a mixture of face-to-face and online interviews. I would like to commend students for arriving to their appointments on time and positively engaging in conversations with the external Careers Consultants. I would also like to thank all parents and/or guardians that were able to attend the interview with their child. I hope this program has initiated some exciting conversations around future pathway possibilities that students can start to explore. The Morrisby Profile will be a great resource that will be used in the future as students transition into their senior years.

A few of our Year 9 students have shared their experiences of their participation in the My Career Insights Program below.

I was very excited leading up to the Morrisby interviews. It was like I was getting to peek behind the curtain to see what my future career could potentially be! In the 30-minute session, my career counsellor went through the results from the testing, explaining what certain things meant. She showed me what areas I was most skilled in and potential jobs I could pursue. I was pleased to find that my biggest strengths aligned with what interested me. There weren't any significant discrepancies. Overall, it was a great experience and gave me some much-appreciated clarity about potential career options.

I think the Career Insights program was a great resource to help see what careers suit us. The report not only showed us jobs that would suit us but also how much of an entrepreneurial mindset we have, the kind of work environments we might like, and more. For me and most of the people I’ve talked to, the jobs they gave were in line with their interests and skills and helped people to find VCE subjects that would help them in the future years. I liked how we also had the interviews so we could go through all the data and reflect on our results with them. Overall, I think it was a great experience that gave me an insight into what kind of career pathways would suit me.

The 'My Career Insights Program' was a great indicator as to what I might want to be when I graduate because, before this, I had no idea what I wanted to be. The results mentioned that I might want to be involved in health or economics and then it gave me a list of jobs in those fields that would best suit me according to my Q&A results. We got many different questions in the Q&A that gave the Morrisby Consultants a good indicator as to who each of us are as learners. Overall, the Morrisby Career Pathways Program gave me and many other students a strong indication as to what we might want to be when we grow up.

I found my Morrisby interview very informative. I already thought I knew what I wanted to do but this helped me out a lot with telling me my strengths and my weaknesses. I enjoyed having a conversation in person about my strengths and my weaknesses. Having my Dad there talking with the interviewer made him understand what I wanted to do as well so he could help me with my decisions. It will help me a lot with my future decisions, and I have a clearer picture of what I might want to do in the future.

My Career Insights Program was a very enjoyable experience. It started off with a quiz (I didn’t feel any pressure to do amazing, I just did as best as I could), then came the interview. The interview was a very chilled and good experience, we went through my possibilities for careers, and I found a few possible careers that I didn’t even think about before my interview. In the interview I was able to ask as many questions as I wanted and we went through my profile. When I went home that night, I was able to jump onto the website and easily navigate my way through my profile to show my family. My Career Insights Program has opened a whole new range of different career options for me and has provided me with resources and all the information I need to figure out what I want to do as my career.

Last term the Year 9's had their Morrisby tests to determine what a career path would look like for them. There were many parts to the test including Abstract, Verbal and Numerical style questions. A few weeks later after we completed the test, we had 6 Morrisby Consultants come in and speak to us one by one, with or without our parents about our results. They explained our profile, many different careers paths we could go down, good VCE options and different jobs suitable for ages 13/14, 16 and 18+. My Personal experience was great. The consultant explained many different jobs I could do and showed my mum and I how to use the website. Some of the Year 9s have only just had their interview due to COVID.
