You Are What You Eat

Fake-away PBL

The students from 'You Are What You Eat' specialism completed our 'Fake-away' PBL. The task was to design a healthier homemade takeaway meal. Whilst keeping in mind our families’ likes/dislikes, allergies, dietary needs and restrictions. We had to take extra care with the implementation of food preparation skills and presentation techniques, which we learnt in previous weeks.

I decided to make a chicken, spinach and ricotta pizza, with homemade dough and sauce. My meal focused on increasing fiber, and other specific vitamins and nutrients. My meal incorporated: blitzed vegetables in the sauce, ricotta which is lower in fat and salt compared to other cheeses, and chicken for protein. My meal could be considered a healthier alternative due to most takeaway pizzas being high in sugar and sodium. Additionally, they are typically highly processed and contain artificial preservatives, added sugar and unhealthy fats.

Overall, I found this PBL interesting and fun to partake in.
