PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Carly Avery

Dear Parents and Friends,

It was great to have the students back yesterday and hear about holiday activities. I am impressed with the way students have quickly slipped back into routine and the focus on tasks in class.

Thank you to those parents who were able to attend the gathering yesterday. This space will be available to those who wish to light a candle or gather for a coffee over the following weeks.

A couple of reminders/ changes in updates from me:

  • Round the Traps: These will begin from the classroom next week.
  • Whole School Assemblies: A reminder that these take place Fridays at 2:45pm in the Church or outside when the weather permits. This week it will be held on Thursday. We welcome any parents or grandparents to join our assemblies. Masks still need to be worn at this stage.
  • Onsite supervision: A reminder that supervision onsite for students begins at 8:30am.

These interviews are scheduled to take place next week:

Covid Requirement Update

We remind parents that there are still restrictions in place regarding when indoors at school. “Visitors and parents must observe indoor face mask requirements.” If entering the school parents need to use the QR code, these are at all entrances.  Staff are continuing to follow our COVIDSafe Plan, this involves reminding the children of the use of hand sanitisers, washing of hands, ventilation, etc.

Collection of Student Contact Details on Excursions for Contact Tracing

Please note the below update in regards to QR codes for students on excursions from Catholic Education Commission Victoria (CECV).

Excursion venues are responsible for managing record-keeping for contact tracing in line with current public health directives. Venues are required to use electronic record-keeping that connects with a digital system provided by Services Victoria.

An electronic or hard copy list of student names (full name required) and contact numbers must be provided to the venue. Students are not required to individually check in at the venue on the day.

Schools should contact venues prior to the excursion to discuss record keeping arrangements, particularly to clarify the responsibility of entering student details into the digital system.

The Department of Health has strongly recommended that a contact number for each individual student (as per the student’s school file) is provided to venues for recording purposes. If providing a private contact number for a student poses a privacy risk or the contact number is unknown, the school’s 24-hr contact number may be used, but this should be the exception.

Parent Consent forms must be updated to advise parents/carers/guardians that when required, schools will be providing excursion venues with student contact details for contact-tracing purposes.

Attendance form for contact tracing should also contain the names and contact details of the adults attending the excursion (i.e. school staff, volunteers and support staff) and these persons must check-in individually on the day using the venue-provided systems. Schools can opt to use their own prepared list, but excursion organisers must refer to the proforma to ensure they capture all the required information.

Schools are reminded to keep accurate internal records of the names and contact details of staff and students who attended excursions as well as the names and addresses of the locations and times visited.

Teaching and Learning Focus:

On Monday the staff participated in the Maths Association Victoria Conference. As a staff, we have been focusing on fluency, problem-solving and challenging tasks. The keynote speaker, Dr Paul Swan, presented on Fluency. Combined with other presenters we were reinforced that our direction and teaching strategies are contemporary and our professional growth will continue to develop in this area.
