Supporting Student Behaviour & Wellbeing
WAYS OF WORKING
Our students continue to be encouraged to demonstrate our Ways Of Working (WOWs) at St Martin de Porres. We value the wellbeing and safety of all in our community and use our WOWs as a way to consistently promote positive behaviours we would like everyone to demonstrate.
To help us embed these, you may like to have a conversation with your child about how they demonstrate our WOWs in their everyday interactions with others.
BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT STEPS
We recognise that there may be times when it can be challenging to consistently follow our WOWs. Just as students need support with their learning, we recognise that students can at times need support and guidance with their behaviour. To help support students in learning from behaviour errors we use our behaviour steps as a way to consistently teach and reinforce positive behaviours . Each classroom space has a display of the behaviour steps that are taken if students need support in following the school expectations.
RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS
As well as continuing to build students' understanding about appropriate behaviour and expectations, we also embed the Respectful Relationships curriculum to deepen students’ understanding and awareness of themselves and their relationships with others. Last week's newsletter explained the current unit around coping strategies. The 3/4 students have been exploring this concept in class since returning to onsite learning and have some great examples to share below. During this lesson, students investigated how emotional responses vary in depth and strength. They described situations that could lead to strong emotions and recorded this in their Respectful Relationship journals.
