GWR Cross Country
On Thursday 15th July, just prior to lockdown 5.0, thirty-two students travelled to Warrnambool to compete in the Greater Western Region Cross Country. The weather was true Cross Country weather, fairly cold and it was very muddy underfoot.
Matilda Mason was first over the line for the 12-13 year girls 3km with a smashing time of 12m22s. Angus Kissel made the podium with a 3rd place for the 15-year boys 3km with a very speedy time of 10m16s, only 0.1sec off the winner. Matilda and Angus along with the following students have qualified for the State Cross Country and will be heading to Melbourne. (Current date has been postponed)
The Monivae age group teams placed as follows:
2nd -15y boy team
3rd - 16y girls
2nd -17-20y girls
Congratulations to all the runners in a fantastic effort. Thank you also to Mr. Kruger and Miss Keath who supported the students throughout the day
Netball Victoria School Championships
After lockdown 5.0, Netball Victoria were very keen to have the competition up and running on Thursday in Geelong, giving us only one day to be ready. With the dedication of staff, students and parents we were ready to go, however late in the morning prior to travelling, Netball Victoria were given notice that no interschool sports were allowed. Our teams were disappointed however keen to compete once a new date is set. We will continue to train weekly up until the competition.
Further details will be sent to the teams as it is released.
Once again, I would like to thank the Mums and ex students who are giving up their time to come along and assist with umpiring and coaching.
Football
At this stage we will continue to run with the below schedule and will change dates if required:
Clay Target
Clay Target training will continue Tuesday nights as we start to ramp up for the upcoming competitions. Trainings have been very well attended with over 30 students each week. Thank you to the captains Demi and Braydon in organising these training nights and encouraging the team whilst shooting, and at the end cleaning up the unbroken clays and empty shells for the club.
Upcoming Competitions:
Hockey
On the 4th August, our Senior girls team were planning on heading to Dimboola to compete in the GWR School Hockey. This date has been postponed due to restrictions; however the girls have started training and are looking forward to playing as a team. Mrs. Rowe is taking on the Hockey this year, she has a wealth of knowledge that she is eager to share with our upcoming hockey players.
I’d like to thank Mrs. Vearing for her time and effort over many years in organising the hockey.
We will continue to plan and train for all sports at their schedule dates. We will all need to continue to be flexible should any dates change due to restrictions etc. I will communicate with students as new or changing dates emerge so that you and your child/ren can prepare.
