Work Experience Update

YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE

Our Year 10 students will be participating in their Work Experience Placements next week and into the school holidays. We wish them well and also wish to thank all employers in our local and wider community who are ‘employing’ one or more of our students.  Without their support, opportunities such as these could not be offered to our students. We also wish to thank the parents/guardians of our students for supporting them in their endeavours.

MINDSHOP EXCELLENCE PRESENTATION

On May 18 we were joined by AKD and past student Meg Nelson, along with our current Year 12 students Olivia Speirs and Joe O’Farrell, who gave a presentation to our current Year 10 students about the Mindshop Excellence Program.

The Mindshop Excellence program is a structured workplace learning program for a small group of six to seven Year 10 students.

The students  work in a host organisation for five days, receiving training by a Mindshop Facilitator and then analysing a real business issue in that organisation and work together to find a solution to the problem.

The highlight of the week is when students present their recommendations to the business management, staff, school representatives and their parents on the last day of the program. In most cases, some or all the team’s recommendations are implemented by the respective businesses involved.

We are very fortunate to have formed a partnership with AKD, who have for the past 7 years hosted our students.  Our students have been able to refine their skills as well as learn new skills and experience personal growth.

They learn teamwork, presentation skills, the discovery process of research, time management, problem solving tools to get them through their senior years at school and beyond, how a business works and gain a greater understanding of working in the REAL world!, to challenge their way of thinking, the feeling of making a difference!, and to have FUN whilst learning new skills.

Our group of students will once again be working with the Mindshop Excellence Facilitators and AKD during our work experience week.  We wish the students well and look forward to hearing about their experience.

SPENCE CONSTRUCTION PRESENTATION

Also on the May 18, Spence Construction joined the Year 10 students.  They presented a short video to the students showcasing their business and spoke of future opportunities that may be available to our students.  We thank Spence Construction for their time and support of our students.
