Information for Parents

Schools have legal obligations under the Disability Standards for Education 2005, under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, to ensure they do not discriminate against people with disabilities and they make reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities to access education.

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) is a federal requirement that all Australian schools are mandated to comply with. Each year, schools report de-individualised information to the Commonwealth Government on the number of students with disabilities enrolled at their school on Census Day, including their category of disability, the levels of adjustment made to accommodate their needs, consultation, (with parents, caregivers, students, specialists and other key stakeholders), and the review of adjustments made.

Data on school students with disabilities is provided to the Federal Government to not only enable needs-based equity in funding for schools, but also provide accurate information on the number of students with disabilities in Prep–Year 12 and the supports schools provide to help students engage with school and their learning, despite the challenges of their disability, or disabilities.

As individual students are not identified in the data reported, Commonwealth funding through the NCCD is not allocated to individual students, rather allocated to the school as a lump sum.

Unlike the State Government’s Program for Students with Disabilities funding, parents and caregivers of students with disabilities are not required to provide documentation for the NCCD – it is wholly the School’s responsibility. The purpose of this article is to share information about the NCCD with our school community. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the NCCD.
