Mental Wellbeing Support Service

In addition to the wellbeing services available through Shelford, Beyond Blue’s Coronavirus Mental Wellbeing Support Service is available to support families through the latest Victorian lockdown. The service is available to everyone and trained counsellors are available 24/7 to support you. The service also includes a range of online resources. Please share  with family and friends.

Visit the website or call 1800 512 348.

I have also included an article in the resources section that provides helpful information for parents supporting their children through another lockdown.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

This week, 17 Shelford staff will begin the Youth Mental Health First Aid course. The course developed for adults working with young people, teaches how we can assist adolescents who are developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Course participants will learn about adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems in young people, where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

We are grateful to Glen Eira City Council for their generous support in facilitating this course at Shelford.

Emerging Young Leaders

Students in Years 11 and 12 who are between the ages of 15–17 are encouraged to apply for a place in the upcoming Menzies Emerging Leaders Program. Interested students should download the Hello World app and follow the prompts to create and upload applications. Entry is free and applicants will receive a place in the 2021 online course as well as $1000 towards their leadership journey.
