Report Cards

At the end of last term, report cards for all year levels were published to the parent lounge. These report cards show each students’ academic progress and learning behaviours. For students in Years 5-10 the start of a new semester is an opportunity to establish new goals for their learning. Students in Year 11 and 12 can also set goals as they work towards the end of Unit 2 and Unit 4 respectively. Please take the time to reflect on the information included in these reports with your son before monitoring week (Week 3), where students will set their academic goals with their Pastoral Group teachers.

If you would like to discuss any of the results on your son’s report card, please do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher or relevant Curriculum Leader via email.

Year 10 subject selection and SET Plan interviews

Year 10 students spent many ASH lessons last term completing career education programs which explored possible pathways for post-school education and employment, as well as the opportunities of study at Marist in senior school. These career lessons culminate in the completion of a SET Plan. Part of the SET Plan process is to select senior subjects which align with the post-schooling pathways student would like to undertake. At the end of last term, all Year 10 students were emailed the link to select their subjects online. Students who haven’t yet selected their subjects have been sent several reminders to do so before the cut-off this Thursday at 5:00pm. Once subject selections are complete, boys are reminded to print off their receipt and return this to the Studies Office.

Year 10 students are to also ensure that they have completed their pre-SET Plan form from ASH lessons and re-emailed again today before their SET Plan interview and then bring this form along with them.

At the end of last term, parents of Year 10 students were emailed home instructions on how to book in for their son’s SET Plan interview. This interview will be held with a member of the staff SET Plan team and will discuss each student’s post-school plans, as well as their senior subject selections. Please ensure you have booked in a time to be part of these important conversations via the details sent to you. If you need these instructions emailed again, please do not hesitate to contact rabiek@marash.qld.edu.au.

Year 12 Academic Interviews

At the end of last term, all Year 12 students attended academic interviews. These interviews provided opportunities for students to discuss their academic progress across Unit 3 and 4 to date, and to identify key target areas for the remaining part of Unit 4. For many students, this includes the External Assessment set by QCAA for General subjects.

Thank you to the many parents and guardians that took the time to be present for these important conversations. If you have any questions following on from these discussions please do not hesitate to contact the Head of Senior School Curriculum, Ms Jen Smeed.

Year 8-10, 2022 Subject Information Night

At Marist College Ashgrove we understand the value of education in enabling our students to become knowledgeable, creative, thoughtful and morally responsible young men who engage actively as citizens of the world.  We recognise that students learn in different ways and as such, courses of study allow for a degree of individualisation, flexibility and choice.

During this term, all students in Years 7-9 will meet with their Head of House to discuss subject selections for 2022.  The teaching staff have prepared Subject Selection handbooks relevant to each year group that will assist you and your son in making the most appropriate selections. These will be made available on Friday 16th July.  When discussing subjects with your son, it is important to know that subjects studied now can influence subjects that may be studied in senior school.  Boys will need to demonstrate a satisfactory standard of achievement and therefore it is imperative that when selecting subjects’ boys should base this on:

  • Areas of interest/enjoyment
  • Academic success to date
  • Alignment with long term goals

As per the College calendar, there will be an information evening, however, changes have been required due to current COVID restrictions. These changes include:

  • Students moving into Year 8 and 9 in 2022 will not have an information night, but course guides and subject selection forms will be provided on the College moodle page at the start of Week 2.
  • Students moving into Year 10 in 2022 will have an information night. This event, held next Monday 19 July at 6:30pm will be both a live streamed and a ticketed event. The COVID-19 restrictions mean that the live stream link will be sent to all Year 10 families to view from home. While the live stream is the preferred viewing option, the event is also available for 2 family members (the student and 1 parent/carer) to attend in person. To attend in-person, allocated seating is required and therefore, tickets need to be booked via trybooking. Details on how to do this, as well as the required links to view the information session from home, will be emailed in the coming days.

If you have any questions about subject selection, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Roxanne Rosenberg, Mr Adam Knight or Ms Jen Smeed.

Year 8-10 Semester 2 subject changes

As we embark on a new semester, students in Years 8-10 may be changing their elective subjects. Students chose these subjects last year during the subject selection process. If your son would like to change their elective, please encourage them to see their Head of House as soon as possible. Subject changes for students in Years 8-10 will close at the end of Week 2 (Friday 23 July).
