Boarding News

Mr Ty Casey

It is with much excitement that we return to Term 3. I’m sure our families and boys have enjoyed a wonderful holiday break. Chatting with many returning families on Monday, it certainly appears all families maximised the time with their sons at home. Term 3 presents a great opportunity for boys to reflect upon their efforts across the boarding community and identify ways in which they can continue to positively contribute to the College community.

Tomorrow our Year 12 boys depart for their retreat. This provides an opportunity to take some time to reflect before they enter the final stages of their schooling journey. The Year 12 Retreat is often one of the most fondly remembered moments of boys’ time here at the College and I very much look forward to sharing their experiences upon their return on Friday.

I look forward to meeting with our Boarding Parent Network via Zoom next Tuesday. These meetings prove vital in gaining feedback from our families. Boarding families wishing to submit agenda items please do so via your year level representative by this Friday.

Pastoral Care

Wellbeing is central to learning and effective pastoral care is inextricably linked to positive academic outcomes and engagement. The effective mastery of social and emotional competencies is associated not only with greater wellbeing, but also better school performance. An integrated whole-school approach to build a supportive and protective school culture, underpinned by the presence of caring relationships, high expectation messages and opportunities for meaningful participation will encourage such outcomes. This term our residences focus on Healthy Living.  This strand focuses on building healthy minds and bodies. It takes a strength-based approach and explores protective behaviours in relation to leading a healthy lifestyle. This strand assists in overcoming the barriers that students face in achieving good health and empowers students to make educated and thoughtful decisions.

Jumpers and Jazz – Warwick

The College is excited to be attending and performing at the Jumpers and Jazz Festival hosted in Warwick next Thursday 22 July. Jumpers and Jazz is an annual festival that occurs in Warwick and surrounding communities within Queensland’s Southern Downs. It is traditionally held over 10 days at the end of July. The festival was born out of a desire to create a positive community response to a major streetscape project in 2004. As Queensland's quirkiest winter festival, it is a platform for the arts and a celebration of all that is wonderful about winter. Led by Dr Andrew Butt our Big Band One will be showcasing all that is amazing and inspiring about our College’s wonderful music program. We thank Andrew and his team in advance for their support.
