Mr Liam Beatty
Dear Primary Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to Term 3. I hope that, despite the COVID-19 lockdown and restrictions, the mid-year break enabled you to spend some quality time together as a family. Unfortunately, I was one of the unlucky people whose wedding was planned during the extended lockdown. Whilst this was disappointing, Angela and I know that we are not in a unique situation. We have found many silver linings and were truly blessed with messages of support from our loved ones. ‘Take 2’ will occur in December, fingers crossed.
When we finished our first semester together in June I reminded the Primary boys of the importance of being 100% Marist, 100% of the time. This mantra resonates strongly with the boys. It also enables us, as educators and parents, to challenge the boys to do their best and be their best both at home and at school. This term I invite you to use this saying with your son at home to remind them of the strong partnership between our home and school expectations.
As we commence Term 3, each week we will focus on one of the five characteristics of Marist Spirituality. These characteristics are visible in our Primary walkway and provide a continuous reminder to our boys of the characteristics lived out by St Marcellin Champagnat and taught by Jesus. This week we focus on being In the Way of Mary…
Mary invites us to give witness to God’s solidarity with people in their needs and suffering and today provides us with a symbol of unity and mission as she did for the apostles on the day of Pentecost. We take Mary as our model of faith, hope and love – allowing God to be at the core of our lives, saying yes to him despite doubt and hesitation.
In an all-boys school, I consider it very special that we have such a courageous female in Mary to guide us each day.
