Digital Technology at COHR
Blue-Bots have arrived at COHR. They are a companion to our Bee-Bots. These floor robots allow our students to explore the wonders of programming and coding. We can use Blue-Bots like our normal Bee-Bots, by programming on the robot itself or these innovative Bluetooth robots can be controlled using a digital device whereby we create a program on screen, send it remotely and see Blue-Bot perform our program right before our very eyes! With a clear shell, children can see inside Blue-Bot and understand which components perform which duties, for example, where is the power stored?
Our 1\2 students were introduced to the Blue-Bots last week in their Digital Technology lesson with Mrs Torrisi. After looking and comparing the Bee-Bots and Blue-Bots and identifying their similarities and differences, the students began their task of programming the Blue-Bot to trace around given shapes laid out on the floor. Students were learning to follow, describe and represent a sequence of steps. Students needed to record the steps taken by their Blue-Bot and make adjustments if they programmed it the wrong direction. Students were then challenged to use a piece of A3 paper and the 15cm rulers to draw their own shape or maze for the Blue-Bot to follow. They had to record their instructions needed for the Blue-Bot to trace the shape successfully.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the challenges set for them and using our new Blue-Bots. They certainly celebrated their successes with programming their robot with simple procedures. Their next lesson will involve using pen shields on their Blue-Bots, programming them and the Blue-Bots drawing their program.
The students and staff of COHR would like to thank our Parent's Association that bought these 12 Blue-Bots, pen shields and obstacle course.
Thank You, Karen Wakeling & Georgina Torrisi
