The students were excited to celebrate Halloween and show off their costumes to each other. We had a parade on the oval for the older students in the morning and the feeling was festive. Some students and teachers had gone to a lot of effort and it was fantastic to see everyone participate in the celebration.

Upcoming Reports and SSGs.

Teachers have been preparing student reports over the last few weeks and they will be uploaded to Accelerus by 20th November. Proof reading will occur for a week and reports will be emailed home on 27th of November. Please ensure the school has a current email address for your family. If you have an SSG before the 27th of November you can still discuss your child's goals and the teacher can communicate what you can expect to find on the report. The last SSG is also an excellent opportunity to discuss any relevant information you would like included in transition reports as you and the classroom teacher prepare your child for transition week.

School Tutor Partners in 2021

The Victorian Government has committed $250 million support teaching professionals to become a tutor to support every student who has missed learning due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. JSA has received DET funding and contributed money from our budget to enable us to employ a qualified full time teacher for 2021. We will be advertising for a teacher that has a literacy and numeracy qualification. The goal is to bridge the gap for the students who may have fallen significantly behind, or completely disengaged through remote and flexible learning. The Department of Education has not yet provided advice to Special Schools regarding identification of students to be targeted through the tutor program, however it is anticipated that up to 50 students will benefit from interventions based on the funding model.

Professional Learning Communities

Teachers are continuing with peer observation and professional conversations in their PLCs.

The feedback process and second round of peer observation has enabled staff to reflect critically on their teaching practice and try new ways of approaching teaching and learning. The feedback from staff about participating in this process has been positive, with staff grateful for the opportunity to focus on improving classroom practice which will lead to better outcomes for students.
