The students have been exploring how to harness energy as part of a Physics Inquiry. Many creative designs were created to harness the sun's rays, taking into account placement, materials, insulation and shape. The children had great delight in testing and modifying their oven. The top temperature reached was 80 degrees! We celebrate their critical creative thinking as they tackle scientific questions.
The staff at Doncaster Secondary College and East Doncaster Secondary College have invited us to attend a 'Zoom Forum' on Wednesday. Year 7 students from both of these colleges will speak about their transition experiences to secondary school and life as a Year 7 student. The transition coordinators from each College will provide an update on the latest Education Department advice about what the transition process will look like. Our students will have the opportunity to ask questions via the chat function.
All Year 6 students will participate in this meeting irrespective of their 2021 school. We believe it will help with the transition and give them some insights into what to expect in coming months.
Today our students participated in online forums with Metro Trains. Usually, the presenters would visit us and discuss aspects of travel on public transport such as etiquette; planning a trip using the online planner; asking for help if you should become lost; and buying a ticket. We believe that learning how to use transport safely and confidently is essential for students transitioning to high school. We were therefore delighted when we were given the chance to learn all those things online. The Year 5 students learnt about rail safety and the Year 6 students learnt about independent travel. Take the time to ask your child about the key messages of the session.
