NAIDOC Week

Next week is NAIDOC week and I would like to thank our Fire Carrier Leaders for their work and enthusiasm in preparing for this event at St Bede's. The team have put together a list of activities for the classrooms and prepared resources - a great initiative.

One of the activities is Monday is a free dress day - wear a touch of red, black and yellow. We invite all children to come dressed in these colours and bring a gold coin donation for the Open The Doors Foundation. Alyssia Williams has written an explanation about this Foundation below.

Also on Monday the whole school will participate in a virtual incursion where a Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Ian will visit and tell us local traditional stories.

We look forward to a great week acknowledging and celebrating our Indigenous People.

Open The Doors Foundation

Written By Alyssia W

Each year the fire carriers in each school are asked to talk about and fundraise for The Open The doors Foundation to spread awareness of this foundation that is helping lives everyday.

The Opening The Doors Foundation was launched on the 4th of August 2001, Which is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders Children's Day. In the first year the Open The Doors Foundation supported 32 students across Victoria and slowly but surely The Open the Doors foundation has since 2019 supported more than 800 students as they strive to grow their connection with communities who need their help.

The Open The Doors Foundation is an aboriginal - led  organization who supports the education of aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders families. The Open The Doors foundation through funding helps aboriginal families have an equal experience of education and through that they help them to make their own choice for the future.

Learning opportunities are known by  meeting the costs of uniforms , school, excursions, music lessons, school books, curriculum extension experiences and overseas travel to gain cultural experiences. This is why As the Fire Carriers we are spreading awareness through our school and supporting The Open The Doors Foundation that are making the world a better place.
