Year 3 News

What a fantastic start it has been for term 4 for our year 3 champions!

Our first week saw our third graders still learning remotely, students had begun all their new units for the term as well as getting ready for face to face teaching! It has been very clear that everyone is adjusting well after being away for a while. Everyone is happy to be back – students, teachers and families, alike!

Reading

Students are beginning a brand-new unit and focusing on the comprehension skills Analysing and Critiquing. Students will have to dig deep and pull apart the meaning from different text types as well as be ‘critics’ and share their opinions about text choices. Students will also be watching the movie, ‘Emperor’s New Groove’ to put their analysing and critiquing skills to good practice!

Writing

For your “information,” Year 3’s are beginning their information reports this term! Students will spend time in understanding the difference between fact and opinion, looking at text structure and creating their own info reports on a topic of their choice! You may see your third grader being busy googling and reading all the cool and important facts at home!

Maths

Our little mathematicians will finish up their Fractions unit from term 3 and soon begin Operations! They will learn to use their knowledge of place value and various strategies to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division worded problems! Got to add up the grocery list? Got to share something in equal parts? Ask the year 3’s, they will solve all your maths queries!

Book Day

This Friday saw Book Day! Where students were encouraged to dress up as their favourite book characters! Have a look at what this class has come up with a short amount of time (How impressive!)

Class 3D

We would like to extend our gratitude to all the year 3 students and their families for being so resilient and persistent during remote learning. We are so happy to have them all back!

Year 4 News

We’re back and our classrooms are buzzing again! The smiling faces and excited chatter demonstrated how delighted everyone was to be learning in the classroom environment once again. All students were able to pick up the classroom routines quickly and did not miss a beat.

Reading

In reading this term all students will participate in book clubs, a place to deepen an appreciation and understanding of a common text. Students will express their ideas and opinions about a book, work collaboratively with their peers and continue to explore a range of comprehension strategies. Students will also listen to, read, view and interpret a range of multimodal texts.

Writing

In writing this term, the focus will be on functional writing. Some of the writing pieces will include procedures, book reviews, letters and notices.

Maths

Grade 4 students have started Term 4 learning about fractions. Students will locate familiar fractions on a number line, recognise common equivalent fractions in familiar contexts and make connections between fractions and decimal notations. Students will also explore the topic of area and perimeter.

Book Week Celebration

Casey from 4A blew us all away with his homemade costume. He spent a number of weeks creating this amazing costume. Well done Casey!

4D Spoonville

4D students enjoyed creating their own Spoonville community. They are back and ready to learn in their classroom community.

4C Writing

4C captured their memories about the year 2020 by expressing their thoughts using a technique called stream of consciousness. Students were able to add an artistic touch to the writing piece and included something that was important to them during lockdown.

We look forward to a busy term of learning and seeing our students continue to thrive.

Year 6 News

Hooray! We are finally back at school after a loooooong term of home learning! We are all really happy to be back at school and seeing our friends in person. Term 4 is going to be a busy term.

In reading, we are watching ‘The Greatest Showman’ as a class. We are doing a film study on the movie and we will be doing lots of activities on it.

In writing, we have been learning about information reports and trying to make our sentences flow better.

In maths, we have been learning about measurement and doing lots of problems with area and perimeter.

In humanities, we plan to have a ‘covid-safe’ market, where students will sell products and donate the money they make to charities.

We are excited to learn more about these topics this term!
