Dear Brookside Community,

Here we are in Term 4 already! It has been so amazing to see our P-7 students back onsite and we can’t wait to have our 8-9 students join us next week.  Our students were welcomed back last week with balloons and their teachers at the gates eager to greet them. Students and teachers are all so very happy to be back at school reconnecting with one another and our student attendance has been exceptional.  Over the past few weeks the students have participated in our Start Up program focussing on Relationships and Resilience, as well as looking at what has changed/remained since they were last onsite.

Last Friday we celebrated Literacy and Numeracy day with a Book Day Dress up. It was great to see all of the colourful costumes across the college, including so many of our staff getting into the spirit of the day.

School Review 2020

Brookside College is currently undergoing a School Review which is a process that every school goes through every four years.

Conducted by the Victorian Registration & Qualifications Authority (VRQA) with support from the Department of Education (DET), the School Review provides an opportunity for schools to reflect on achievements as well as focus on areas for improvement.

Following the review the school will receive a report that outlines key findings and recommended improvement strategies to maximise student outcomes. This will then inform the development of the School Strategic Plan (SSP) which will outline our focused work throughout the next four years.

Parent Opinion Survey

Brookside College is conducting the Parent Opinion Survey this term to find out what parents think of our school. This confidential survey is offered annually by the Department of Education and Training and is designed to assist schools to gain an insight into parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school specifically intends to use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies, and as such your feedback will be extremely valuable to us moving forward. All families have been invited to participate in the survey this year via email. Please note the following information regarding the survey:

  • the survey only takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
  • all responses to the survey are anonymous.
  • only 1 response per family.
  • the survey will be conducted online and can be accessed on a variety of devices, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
  • the online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English including Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

The Parent Opinion Survey is open now until Friday 13th November. We appreciate all of your feedback and support and hope that you can assist us by completing the survey at your earliest convenience. If you have any questions or would like more information about the survey please contact the school at 73791555.

Prep Enrolments for 2021

A reminder that we are currently accepting Prep 2021 enrolments. Please note that enrolment is not automatic for families who currently have a child/children attending the college – families will still need to apply to enrol their prep child at the school if they wish for them to attend. Parents/Guardians who are interested in enrolling their child at Brookside next year are encouraged to contact the College on 7379 1555 for details on the enrolment process.

Due to the current Covid-19 situation, Brookside College is unable to offer school tours at this time. However, we have produced a ‘Virtual Tour’ for our prospective Prep families, which can be found on our website, or by following this link: https://vimeo.com/444408728

Transitions 2021

Our Early Years leaders held their Foundation 2021 Information Evening on Zoom last week. There was a great turn out of mostly new, and some existing families, and it was a great opportunity for us to welcome our 2021 Foundation families, who are all very excited to begin their primary school journey with us at Brookside.

Nominated Brookside leaders conducted our Year 7 2021 information evening this week via Zoom. It was great to see so many of our current Year 6 Brookside families, and the new faces of those who will be joining our community in 2021, Zoom in to learn more about Year 7 operations, and curriculum content.

Our current Year 8 students and their families also Zoomed in this week for our Year 9 information evening, which overviewed all of the exciting and engaging learning opportunities ahead in 2021, including our Futures and Electives programs.

We wish you all a wonderful weekend!
