From the Principal

The impact of the COVID19 restrictions is having a massive influence on the economy and job security.  Any school family who is experiencing financial hardship and needs assistance with school fees obligations is encouraged to contact me via

email (principal@ssrowville.catholic.edu.au) to discuss how we can help at this time.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week we have had a number of exciting events surrounding our learning at St Simon’s.

In this week’s newsletter you will see a great showcase of the fun, excitement and energy experienced of our first Maths Fun Day.  It was wonderful to see so many students (and their families!) taking up the challenge of coming dressed in a maths related costume! Thank you to Monica Rayner, teachers and support staff for all the work that went into planning this special day.

On Thursday and Friday this week our prep, year 1 and year 2 students will have an opportunity to participate in the first of our Outdoor Education Days. Families with students in these levels please refer to a letter sent out via Operoo this week for further details. One of the highlight activities for the students will be the chance to play on some large inflatable amusement rides. I am looking forward to seeing some of the fun and engagement celebrated in next week’s newsletter.

A big thank you to the Parents’ Association for organising the first of the Friday Subway days. This week our Year 5 and 6 students will have the opportunity to have a Subway lunch.  This is a positive sign of “getting back to normal” within our school community.

Sun Smart!

As the weather starts to warm up it is timely to revisit our SunSmart Policy.  All students need to wear a hat at school for outside activity and come to school with sunscreen applied on exposed parts of the body. If your child has a skin sensitivity to sunscreen then please send an appropriate sunscreen product.  The school has a supply of sunscreen within each class level, office and first aid areas.

School Closure Day - Monday 23rd November

Monday 23rd November will be a student free day to allow teachers to engage in professional learning and planning for 2021.  Beyond Edu Care will be providing a care program on the day.  If you need to access this please contact Beyond Edu Care directly.

School Readiness Webinar

Last Monday 9th November we hosted a School Readiness Webinar for our Prep 2021 families.  This was a very practical and informative session presented by experienced psychologist and mum Carly McGauran.  Whilst I acknowledge that people reading this will have their children already established at school and in some sort of routine, Carly shared some great strategies about building independence in children and building awareness in working with feelings and emotions that may be helpful.  If you are interested here is the link to the recording

Remembrance Day Student Liturgy

On Wednesday 11th November our student leaders led a remembrance day liturgy for our school community.  Please click here to view.

School Assembly

A Quick Reminder

If you are wanting to bring a birthday celebration treat to school this needs to be individually wrapped for students.  These treats will be given out at the end of the day and placed in children’s bags, to be eaten at home with family.  Please no full birthday cakes.

God bless
