NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC 8 - 15 November
NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Each day of NAIDOC week our students had an insight into aboriginal history, culture and their achievements, and more specifically of the Wurundjeri people, the traditional owners of the land where we live.
This years theme was Always Was, Always Will Be
Did you know?
Wominjeka means Hello/Welcome in the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people of Kulin Nation
'The Wurundjeri People take their name from the Woiwurrung language word ‘wurun’ meaning the Manna Gum (Eucalyptus viminalis) which is common along ‘Birrarung’ (Yarra River), and ‘djeri‘, the grub which is found in or near the tree. Wurundjeri are the ‘Witchetty Grub People’ and our Ancestors have lived on this land for millennia.'

For the culmination of NAIDOC week, some of our Indigenous students proudly display the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags.
At Tarneit Senior College, we recognise and celebrate the diversity of all our students and staff which can be seen in the photo below and respectfully acknowledge the traditional owners of our land.
We hope to be able to proudly fly these at the entrance of our school in the not too distant future.
- If your national flag is not displayed in building B, please inform the friendly office staff or one of the Assistant Principals so we can rectify this for you.
