We often talk about taking notes, but perhaps we do not describe this process specifically enough. Educational research has shown summary note taking to be a key learning strategy. Summarising is like retelling a story, we do not go over every detail; we abbreviate, select important points, eliminate unnecessary ones and tell the essentials.
This process of taking in more information, highlighting some, getting rid of some and telling it again helps us to understand. In this process, we select, organise (or reorganise) and integrate (add to existing learning) – these are some ways that we create understanding for ourselves. And understanding is learning.
So, as you listen, read, watch or consume any ideas, regularly make summaries because the very act of making these summaries is helping you learn.
Note: where ideas have already been put into a diagram or table – those are the condensed, summary of the ideas.
On 28 April all Year 10 Students undertook their Morrisby Career Profiling at the College. Morrisby is an online career guidance tool that assists our students to identify potential career pathways and is designed to also support them to make informed decisions about their subject and pathway planning for their senior years at the College. Our Students received their results immediately and were readily comparing their future career suggestions in a variety of industries including Health, Engineering, Education, Trades, Design, Business and a lot more.
The Morrisby Testing forms the basis of subject selection for 2023 where our Year 10 Students will now work with the Careers Practitioner, their Year Level Coordinators and Learning Area Coordinators to discuss and plan their subject and pathways for senior secondary and beyond.
