Head of Junior Years

Mrs Maria Denholm

Welcome back to Term 2 in the Junior Years.  It has been great to see our students back again after a refreshing holiday. It’s a busy term with many year levels involved in swimming lessons at AquaPulse. Thank you to those parents who have completed the requirements to become a volunteer. If you would like to do this, please contact me on SEQTA and I can let you know what to do.

Already this term, we have had a performance and launched ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ in the Junior Years, as well as being able to have a group of our students attend the Hoppers District Cross Country Competition.

We are looking forward to getting back to the church for our weekly chapel time in a safe way, as well as beginning some assemblies.

This term is a short one with only 9 weeks.  If your child is away for an extended time, please contact their teacher who can keep them up to date with learning.

Last week our Year 3's, 4’s and 5’s enjoyed an exciting live performance from Brainstorm Theatre called ‘Saving Lil and Archie’. The play showed students how to regulate their emotions and connect with people in a positive way. It explored strategies for the safe use of technology, dealing with bullying and getting the right balance between screen timesleepexercise and face-to-face communication.

There was pandemonium on Planet Arkon when two robots, Lil and Zig, were zapped to earth and into the lives of two siblings, Bella and Archie. Bella is being bullied by the girls in her friendship group. With no sleep and too much screen time, Archie finds it hard to connect with other children. He is lonely and confused.

Bella learns to be assertive, and to ‘report’, ‘log off’ and talk to her parents when her online interactions become negative and nasty. To restore the balance, Archie must control his impulseslisten and use empathy so Lil and Zig can return to Arkon.

Year 3

The Year 3 students are learning about communities. We were inspired by a book called 'Maybe Something Beautiful', illustrated by Rafael López. Rafael López draws murals on blank walls in different cities. Year 3 were so inspired, we started to make our own murals with pastels. Year 3 then split up into five groups and in the end they all looked FANTASTIC! After that happened, we showed our work to the Principal and she liked all of them. Mrs Raju emailed Rafael López and he said our work looked beautiful!
