Math Professional Learning - Cognitively Demanding Tasks

Staff participated in a MACs run professional learning session on Tuesday night with a focus on cognitively demanding tasks in Maths. Challenging tasks are demanding and thought provoking mathematical problems that aim to include all students in the lesson through characteristics such as being simply posed, open ended, can use multiple strategies and have multiple answers.

A problem to enjoy as a family;

12 legs

In a photo of a farmyard, you can see 12 legs.

Draw what the animals might be.

Give more than one possible drawing.

Show the mathematical thinking.

Remember "Whoever is doing the thinking is doing the learning..."

Don't reduce the thinking and struggle by giving too many instructions.

School Closure Day

Monday 30th May is a school closure day. Staff will participate in a days professional learning  with a focus on Inquiry. We are working with the educational consultant Shaz Bailey.
