From the Deputy Principal

Future Female Leaders

Congratulations to Stella Boyce (Year Eleven) who has been selected as one of only 14 young women from across Western Australia to participate in the Future Female Leaders Program.  The program requires a significant commitment of time and energy, over six months.  Below, Stella has outlined her first meeting and what she learnt at the start of this exciting opportunity.  We look forward to hearing more  from Stella as the course continues.  Watch this space!

At the beginning of March, I was accepted into the Future Female Leaders Program. I submitted my application in early February and was overjoyed when I received my welcome email. The program is for young women in Years Eleven and Twelve that have an interest in leadership and making a change. We are required to create a project based on one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This project is going to become our 'baby' over the next six months as we watch it grow and develop. Although the project is a big part of the program, the most important part is learning new skills and meeting new people along the way.

I recently attended my first in-person meeting in Perth last Thursday and I was given the opportunity to meet the women I will be on the program with until late September. The focus for the day was self-awareness and we were able to not only get to know each other, but also ourselves. I also met my mentor who will be guiding me through this process, and I am so excited to collaborate with her on my project and learn as much as I can.

Over the course of the day we were asked to participate in a variety of tasks and games to get to know ourselves. The Johari window was one of the tasks that really stood out to me. It allowed us to dig deep into our minds and find out what things we really knew about ourselves and what we were yet to discover. Filling out the different sections of the window got increasingly more difficult as we realised that it was hard to know the unknown.

I have really enjoyed my introduction into this program and I can’t wait to venture into the next six months and find out all about the different aspects of leadership.

ANZAC Day

We are pleased to hear that the ANZAC Service in Albany on Monday 25 April is able to proceed as planned. GSG will be represented in the ANZAC Day March on York Street by our Pipe Band and student leaders, who will then attend the ANZAC Service at Anzac Peace Park.  We look forward to seeing you there if you are able to attend.

More student success!

Congratulations to Hardy Croucher (Year Ten) who participated in the national grand final for Class Clowns, part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival this week. It’s like raw comedy, but for under 18s. Hardy was one of two students representing Western Australia and was awarded runner-up.  We are very proud of Hardy's efforts and can't wait to see his next big move on the comedy circuit and, following his smash-hit banana costume, what his next costume choice will be.
