Year 6 News

BayPlay – by Mason – 6B

When we arrived at Ricketts Point, we hopped out of the bus and headed towards the building next to the beach. I put my bag on the ground and got into my bathers to prepare for the activities.

We were told what activities we would do and which group we would be in. I was in yellow, along with my friends Ben, Angus and Slater. Our first activity was a coastal walk, we walked to the rock pools and found shrimps, a small dead crab and a Blue Ring Octopus.

After we had a look at the rock pools, we played a game called Foxholes. The players dug a hole and made a wall in order to not be seen by the spotter. When the spotter called “FOXHOLES!” the players had limited time to rush to another player’s hole and hide before the time ran out.

After we played Foxholes we had a small break to eat and relax before our next activity which was snorkelling. We suited up in very tight wetsuits and flippers, along with grippy snorkel masks and swam into deep water to find a reef!

When we were swimming above the reef, I saw something and yelled “Port Jackson shark! I found one below me!” People swam over and had a look at the shark. When I was getting close to the shark it swam off instantly. I was disappointed to lose sight of it but kept swimming and found different types of fish and coral. I also saw lots of sea urchins on our snorkelling trip and spotted another 2 Port Jackson sharks (or maybe the same one as before), but  then we headed back to the beach.

The Year 6 Beach Program was fun but one of the most fun things to do was kayaking. When I heard that there was kayaking, I was stoked because I love kayaking - it is like my hobby. Right after we did all the warm ups we started to practise. We hopped straight on, and I was in a group with Lucy, Imogen, Eloise and it was so much fun.

After we came back to shore, we did a game called Ubers and I was at the back helping Lucy steer. Lucy was in front and Imogen was in the middle and then something funny happened… we fell in the water because we were leaning on one side.

After we fell in the water, the kayak was on top of us because we were leaning on one side, and it fell right on top of us, and everyone started to laugh at us because it was funny “apparently’.

It was not funny for us because the kayak was on top of us and for a couple of seconds we could not breathe because we were stuck in the kayak.

But after all that trauma, it was fun and I would really love to do kayaking again someday… but not today.

SPORT EXPO

Mrs Hall organised a fantastic morning of physical activity for the Year 5 and Year 6 students last week. They learnt Football skills from an AFLW player, Lacrosse throwing and catching as well as Ultimate Frisbee techniques.  One of the highlights was learning some Aerobics and Hip-Hop moves to music:

AEROBICS – by Adele - 6B

I personally had the best experience of my life at aerobics because I had never tried it before so it was very new to me but it was so much fun. We started off with some warm ups then got into the choreography. Miss Ondy, who was the lady that ran the session, showed us all the dance moves that she choreographed with the music. She used very strong and firm dance moves which I loved. We practiced it over and over and performed it once or twice. The most fun part of this experience was trying new things which is why I really, really liked it!
