Year 4 News

Maths

During our current Unit of Inquiry, the students were challenged to bring their understanding of addition to work with their group in building a list of supplies to assist them on the island. The resources that were used were a variety of shopping catalogues. They were asked to find a luxury item, toiletries and food, all for $100.00.

Once the items had been decided on, the students made a poster in their group. They were then asked to present to their class, highlighting and justifying their choice. The teachers were pleased to see students so engaged and working cooperatively.

Inquiry

The Year 4 students are nearing the end of their current unit of inquiry.  This week students have made decisions as a group and allocated roles required to make communities successful. Decision making, weighing up choices, delegating and collaborating have all been skills the students have negotiated.

Bike Education

Congratulations to the Year 4 students for completing the two day course on Bike Education. Students were engaged in a variety of rotations for two full days. In this time students learnt about road rules and bike safety.

Some lessons included: learning how to scan, signal, slow riding, giving way to the right, managing roundabouts, U Turns and intersections.

We were very proud of the support students gave each other and how they managed themselves scooting around the school in a safe manner.  Continuing to support your child and discussing road and bike safety rules throughout the year would be a wonderful way of instilling these lessons with your child.

Pen Pal

This week we have enjoyed spending time with our new Year 2 pen pals. On Wednesday the students enjoyed ‘Read to Someone’ and worked together on a craft activity. We are looking forward to developing these friendships through writing and collaboration throughout the year.
