From the 1/2 Classrooms

Literacy in Team 1/2

Last term, the students in Grade 1 and 2 were inspired to write their own story about a bear. These stories were based on ‘The Very Hungry Bear’ and ‘The Very Itchy Bear’ by Nick Bland. The students enjoyed the experience of being the author and illustrator of their very own book.

At the Expo in the last week of term, Grade 1 and 2 students thoroughly enjoyed sharing their book with their parents and visitors in their classrooms.

It was a beautiful sunny morning on the last day of term 1, and all the students in Grade 1 and 2 gathered together to share their books with friends in the other classes. Students found a friend, a place to sit and enjoy each other’s company and read each other the bear books they had written.

It was a great way to celebrate and share with their friends what they had achieved in writing and illustrating their own story.

Below are photos of the special morning and some comments reflecting student thoughts about sharing their books.

"I liked sharing our bear stories because I got to sit under the friendship tree with my friend Isla and read each other’s stories." Lindsey
