OSHClub

What’s been happening at OSHC…

We've had so much fun over the past two weeks as we’ve continued engaging with our after-school clubs! Our goal of focus centred around developing a sense of belonging in the program through our relationships with peers, families and the community.

Monday 21st March: Harmony Day

To celebrate Harmony Day for 2022, the children explored and shared their personal histories and cultures. Together, we spoke about the importance of celebrating diversity in our world and the importance of Harmony Week. A beautiful enrichment experience, the children made a symbolic hand that explores their family diversity whilst listening to cultural music from across the globe. Fabulous work everyone!

Tuesdays: Science Squad

In Science Squad, the children continued to build upon their understanding of chemical reactions as we investigated fizzing ice with vinegar and bicarbonate soda. Together, the children had lots of fun exploring a range of icy experiments including making our own snow! The children made some great connections to previous learning in Science Squad including Sofia’s observation that these experiments were similar to the volcano experiment.

Next week, we will build on our understanding of reactions as we finish our science squad for the term with a bang! Together, we will make some eggsploding Easter eggs!

Wednesdays: Mini OSHClub Bake Off Club

OSHClub mini bake off club has been super busy! As requested by Charlie, we made a scrumptious chocolate mud cake. Developing our inquiry capacities, Hudson made a great observation about the changes he saw in the cake. Thank you to Charlie for building on your leadership and communication skills as you read the recipe so clearly!

“The more you mix the cake, the smoother the mixture looks”- Hudson, Grade 2

Next week, we will put together our favourite recipes from Mini OSHClub bake off club to create our own cookbook! We will also bake some yummy Easter treats!

Thursdays: Sporting Superstars

In Sporting Superstars Club, Charlie has found a massive fan club among the preps who were cheering him on in Hudson and Charlie’s game of goalie take. Lucia has also loved facilitating athletics races with the young children, well done Lucia for your amazing leadership skills! We were developing our physical well-being through healthy eating and active lifestyles!

The children also developed their physical and social well-being as they negotiated play in a game of cops and robbers! The children have thoroughly enjoyed these opportunities for unstructured social play.

Next week, we will build on these social skills as we encourage children to engage in a hop-a-thon for Easter!
