Around the School

We have now entered into the period of time where Easter is approaching and all the traditions that surround it have begun to creep into our thinking and our environment. Well, I think there have been hot-cross buns in stores since Boxing day! The idea that God poured all of himself into a man, Jesus, and then, being fully human, allowed himself to experience the full horrors of a crucifixion, is certainly a sobering thought. But his death alone is not the reason we celebrate Easter. It’s the complete package of His resurrection and the power and life that came with that. What an awesome thing to celebrate. As you plan to celebrate, perhaps with family, chocolate egg hunts, hot cross buns, family meals, church services and holidays, take a moment to stop and reflect in awe and gratitude of this great gift of eternal life and a life on earth spent in a relationship with our creator.

Here are a few photos of our Junior School Easter-themed assembly.

Our Prep students loved dressing up for Harmony Day last Friday! There were lots of wonderful outfits and we loved learning about one another's family heritage!

Year 1

The Year 1 students have continued to enjoy a variety of experiences over the past few weeks. From cheering each other on and celebrating their achievements at the Junior School Athletics to participating in Harmony Day, when everyone had an opportunity to dress in cultural dress and reflect on their family heritage. Easter is fast approaching and the class have completed their entries for the Easter Arts Festival. These artworks will be on display at Gateway Plaza.

Year 2

Year 2 students have been busy learning about Easter this week. They have enjoyed reading in their own Bibles the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey and the events that followed. As a class, we have been reflecting on the importance of Jesus dying on the cross and what that means for each of us. The students especially enjoyed a visit from Mrs Tucker this week, where they made some special artwork. Well done Year 2!

Year 3

It has been a great fortnight of learning in Year 3. For Harmony Day, students enjoyed learning about cultural diversity. We also explored the different countries our class members have ancestral links to.

Year 4

Year 4 has been busy, busy, busy with so many events. Over the past couple of weeks we have experienced our first ever athletics day, then half of the class went off to represent our school at an interschool level.  We've been able to celebrate Harmony Day with a number of different activities that included colouring in, looking at where our ancestral ties come from and creating different pieces of artwork.  It has been a privilege to be part of such a diverse and caring bunch of students. I thank God for being part of their educational journey.

Year 5

On Harmony Day, Year 5 dressed in either orange clothes or clothing which represents their family heritage. They also graphed the countries where their families are from which was fascinating to see.

Buddy time is always an exciting time of the week for the Year 6 and Prep students. This week Anneliese read a story to the big and little buddies. We then helped the Preps with an art activity to create a jungle background for a monkey they had created.
