L & T AND LITERACY - Vira Pirrotta

Examples of the Writing Stage @ St Fidelis

I had the opportunity to spend some time with the Juniors during Literacy time of the last few weeks. Here are some of the student pieces that highlight the different stages of writing.

Foundation Writing

The Foundation students were particularly proud of their writing from their walk to school experience. They planned their writing with a picture and then had an attempt at drafting their ideas. You can also see their many attempts at sounding out words. Leanne then supported them by editing their attempts.

The Year One and Two Students

Each week the 1/2 students have many writing opportunities as they engage in   Discovery where they explore their many interests. They have the opportunity to generate wonderings and reflect on their time at the Discovery Stations. Here are some wonderful writing pieces that came from their Discovery sessions.

NAPLAN

This week the Year 5 and Year 3 students had the opportunity to complete the NAPLAN practise using the demonstration test. This gave them the opportunity to see the setup of the new platform and allowed them to see how the questions will be presented during the NAPLAN test. The students did an amazing job logging on and navigating the new platform.

Parents this week your child will bring home a letter informing you about the NAPLAN. Below is also a link to the NAPLAN site.

Please feel free to contact me at vpirrotta@sfmoreland.catholic.edu.au or come and chat with me when I am on yard duty in the morning or afternoons if you have any questions.

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT - Leanne Wenckowski

Expressions of Interest

In my role as Family Engagement Leader, I am thinking about beginning a 'Storytime Session' on a Monday afternoon between 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm for toddlers and pre-school children beginning in Term 2. We were set to begin this last year but then Covid hit and onsite events were cancelled.

A story would be read, followed by an activity for you and your child to complete together. There would also be an opportunity to borrow a book. It could be a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other.

If you think this may interest you, could you please send an email to:  lwenckowski@sfmoreland.catholic.edu.au with your details including the name and ages of your participating children.

Walk Safely to School Day

Our Walk Safely to School Day last Wednesday was a great success. There was a fantastic turnout of families at Shore Reserve where our walk to school began. Families also met us along the way as we walked down Reynard Street to St Fidelis Primary School. The weather was perfect for the walk.

The students all enjoyed their breakfast boxes and the delicious fruit that the Joson family organised to be donated from the Epping Wholesale Market. Thank you to Jimmy and his co-workers at the market.

Parents were not left out either as many enjoyed a coffee they purchased from the Food, Family, Passion van.

Thank you for your support in encouraging your children to be healthy and enjoy some exercise.

Congratulations to all our teams on a wonderful season of summer sport playing games of basketball, bat tennis and softball.  A large number of our students played these sports for the very first time and they should feel extremely proud of their efforts and the manner in which they displayed great sporting behaviour!
