Behind the Scenes

The privilege of compiling the photos and content for Behind The Scenes is revealing itself!  Today, I did a quick visit to the art rooms, textiles room, wood and metal rooms where the breadth of experiences and projects in the Arts & Technology areas dawned on me!

Underpinning all of the projects is problem solving. The key to utilising art and technology skills for life is not to become ‘a good drawer’ but to build the capacity to problem solve.  Our Art & Tech students work through a design process and creatively imagine ‘what are the possibilities’ when posed with a problem or a project brief.  The critical and reflective skills are then utilised to foresee weaknesses in the ideas and deal with concerns so that the possibilities can come to fruition.

These are key skills for engineering, sustainability, architecture, fashion, design, art, business and science (amongst others)!

A trip around the creative arts and technology spaces at St Joes reveals that students studying Art & Technology are intellectually stimulated, have the opportunity to explore possibilities and will have incredibly valuable skills to help shape the future of our world.
