LMR Swimming

Last week our swimming team travelled to Swan Hill for the LMR swim meet which is the qualifier for the State Titles next month.

With 44 events, our super swimmers ended up with 28 podium finishes, which was an amazing effort at this level of competition!

The following students have qualified for the State Finals in Melbourne on Thursday 28 April and we wish them all the very best!

This year we will be entering an AFL Senior Girls team which is very exciting!  Sign-ups are available on SIMON for girls in Year 11 and 12 with Miss James coaching the inaugural senior team!

Senior Boys Cricket

On Monday 21 March, the Senior Boys Cricket team looked to continue their 2022 campaign in Strathfieldsaye against the schools well-known and long-time rival, Girton Grammar. Losing the toss, our Captain and hero in our final against Nathalia, Liam Hamilton gave us the news that we were set to bowl first.

The main idea during the innings was to ‘keep the ball off the deck’ to avoid the ball being affected by the dew-covered ground. Unfortunately Tom Cleary, Lewis Rolfe and Harley Reid weren’t able to follow this simple order, putting us in a very difficult position to have an impact with the ball. We can all admit, we were flat, and were not looking like a threat at all, until Braydee Hutchins was called upon. With pure class, Hutchins was able to take two wickets in a very short time span including an inspiring 'caught and bowled' wicket that changed the momentum of the game.

Soon after, the play of the game was made by Year 11 student Noah Turner. Harley Reid bowled a no-ball, resulting in a free hit. The boys were furious, certain he was going to be hit for six the next ball. Out of nowhere, our very own Noah Turner caught the free hit and ran out Girton Grammar’s most renowned batsmen to lift our spirits and keep us driven as we closed out the innings. Girton finished off 4/139, leaving the batsmen with their work cut out for them.

Joel Priestley and Harley Reid opened the batting, but failed to impact the game which they had been known to do in the past. Joel Priestley went out for 0 runs, and from there the boys struggled to get on the board and ended up falling short of the required target by 32 runs. Special mentions to Nick Stone for top scoring with an impressive 27 not out, which made up for his bowling efforts. Thankyou to Kristian McNichol, and the boys who were able to fill in for those who were not available on the day, incredible efforts!
