Term 1 in Review...
What a great start to 2022! It has been a busy term with lots of fun events. We started the term with a whole school performance. The Grade 5 students supported their Prep Buddy in the adorable 'Witch Doctor' dance, while the Grade 6 students showed just how cool they really are, rocking out to 'Cha Cha Slide'.
We have had a jam packed term involving lots of learning. The students have thoroughly enjoyed our Reader's Notebook this term, 'Boy Overboard' by Morris Gleitzman. The discussions they have had and connections they have made to current world events has been fantastic! We have also spent a large part of the term focusing on eSafety. The students have been learning about the importance of staying safe online and the ill effects of spending too much time on devices.
Some other highlights this term were the School Swimming Sports and Harmony Day. It has been a real breath of fresh air to have our school events back running almost as they were in pre-covid times. We are certainly looking forward to another fun filled Term 2!
Upcoming Fortnight:
Week 1 and 2:
In reading this week, we will be reviewing the strategies of Check for Understanding and looking at Making Predictions as we begin our new Reader's Notebook. We will also spend some time looking at accuracy strategies to assist decoding new vocabulary.
We will have a focus on literary devices during our writing sessions. We will look at devices such as exaggeration, alliteration, repetition, rhetorical questions and more. This, coupled with some revision on the persuasive writing structure is sure to have the students finish the fortnight with a powerful and compelling opinion piece.
In Mathematics, we will start the term off with a unit on Chance and Probability. This is a fun topic to start the term and it will also involve an assessment piece the students will complete which will be sent home as a Learning Task.
In Term 2, our topic 'Think Global, Act Local', involves learning about the natural world, how we are changing it and how we can learn to live more sustainably.
As part of our STEAM program, the Grade 5 students will begin the term revising some eSafety concepts before learning about electricity. The Grade 6 students will continue to build on their knowledge of coding and complete challenges with the use of our Robotics kits.
