From the Principal

Dear Parents/Caregivers

A big welcome to Term 2 and what promises to be an exciting time as we return to what we knew. I hope everyone had a nice break. Thankfully, parents and carers can now re-enter the yard and classes. Masks are only required indoors. All going well, we will have our first Assembly as a community in week 3. This will be hosted by our year 4 classes. As well as hearing about and seeing the great things the year 4 students are engaging in, we will present our 6 cohort and congratulate the student leadership group for 2022. I look forward to seeing you back around the place and I'm sure your children are too!

Information regarding this year's NAPLAN has been distributed to year 3 and 5 students. The testing dates are on the calendar in this edition. If you have any queries or concerns regarding the tests, please make contact with your child's teacher.

A reminder that Term 2 means the transition to winter uniform. There is a "grace" period of a couple of weeks as the temperatures remain warm. A reminder that all students should be wearing the correct school uniform at all times.  I appreciate that there are times when things haven't dried  or something has gone missing. On these occasions, please let your child's teacher know.  A reminder that we do have school beanies as part of the uniform, these are great for keeping cold heads warm on a chilly morning.

A big reminder regarding parking. Whittington Street does have restrictions regarding the parking of vehicles before and after school. The Council does issue fines if vehicles are left unattended when they shouldn't be. The school can not advocate on your behalf to have the fine revoked. Please do not leave your vehicle parked and unattended  when it shouldn't be, it cost you money, blocks the flow of traffic causing frustration for other drivers and most significantly of all, a potentially hazardous situation for children.

We welcome Hannah Andersen to our community this term. Hannah is teaching in the year 5 unit while Mr Macnamara is on leave.

As I wrote about last term, we had the surveyors on site and the Architects have met with staff in regard to new Administration block and the relocated Resource Centre in the current staff block. During the break the Transition to School Area (next to OSHC) was extended to accommodate the Term 3 Reception cohort.

It is pleasing to see excursions and incursions back on the school calendar. I am joining the year 5/6 students and staff on camp this week in Strathalbyn. While it's a bit cold, it's good to be away with the students and have a great time in a different environment. The sleep deprivation is nothing a few extra jelly beans can't fix!
