Our Holy Week Liturgy and Easter

Holy Week Liturgy

Although we are still a week away, on Monday we celebrated our Holy Week Liturgy. The 5/6 students told the story of Holy Week, starting with the events of Palm Sunday when Jesus rode into Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover with his disciples.

The students read beautifully, taking us on a journey from Palm Sunday, to Holy Thursday and the last supper, all the way to Good Friday and the Stations of the Cross. The events of Holy Week are sad but are also filled with hope and love.

The last sentences of the liturgy were as follows:

The story of Holy Week is a very sad time when we remember Jesus and how he died.

Now we wait, just as everybody else was waiting. No one knew what was going to happen next, everyone was just very sad.

God of love, you gave us Jesus who lived here on this earth.

He suffered and he died on the cross.

We know you are there for those who suffer,

for those who are hurt, who are sad or are alone –

just as you were with Jesus. May we learn to be more like Jesus in our own lives. We ask this in the name of Jesus who is your gift of love and our Easter hope.

Amen

Thank you to all the students who read and acted during our Holy Week Liturgy and to Father Eric for his support.

Now we wait for Easter

Lent ends on Holy Thursday, 14 April, with a note of wonder. In the face of all the mighty works that God has already performed for the people, God promises something even more magnificent. Throughout this season of Lent, we have reflected on the marvels that God accomplished in the lives of the people. Now God says: You haven't seen anything yet.

How has God done great things for you, in your heart, in your mind, through actions, for you this Lent?

Take some time to reflect on your journey from Ash Wednesday to today.

Where have you changed or grown? What more do you want to do to be more loving and compassionate in the last few days of this preparation time?

When the time comes, I am wishing you a wonderful Easter with your family and we hope to see you in Term 2.

Kind regards,
