PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Welcome back to Term Two. I hope your family had a nice Easter holiday period and the children are refreshed and ready for a short, sharp term of learning and fun.

This term is only 9 weeks in length and factoring in the two public holidays for Anzac Day and the Queens Birthday, it consists of only 43 school days. There is much to look forward to in Term Two, with many events and activities for the children and families. This newsletter is a long one, with lots of information about Term Two, so I encourage you to grab a cup of tea (or something stronger) and ready your family calendar to mark down upcoming events.

On Thursday 5th May (next week), we come together as a school community to spoil and celebrate the mothers and special ladies of St Agnes’. There is the Mother’s Day Breakfast from 7.30am-8.30am in the School Hall; all Mother’s and special ladies are invited to come along to this event. There will be breakfast options for the mums and children, with the dads doing all the work. Head across to the P&F page of this newsletter to organise your tickets for breakfast and raffle. It is a wonderful opportunity to catch up with other mums and families from our school community, all while celebrating the work done by the mums of our school.

This will be followed by our Mother’s Day Liturgy at 8.50am in the Church. The children are working hard this week to bring together this celebration for and of our Mother’s. It will be entirely led by the children and I strongly encourage all mums to take an hour out of your day to come along for this. Each of the classes is preparing a small element of the liturgy to share with our mums. We know that there are ‘busy’ times in the lives of our families, but mothers do so much for their children and this is your turn to enjoy the spoils for once. I would like to wish all mothers and special ladies of St Agnes’ a happy Mother’s Day for next Sunday. May it be filled with lots of cuddles and special times with your children and families.

Mother’s Day Stall

This Friday 29th April, the children will have the opportunity to purchase a gift for their mum or special lady at the Mother’s Day Stall. The children can bring up to $10 and will shop with siblings so there is no double up! Thank you to our Georgia Sotiroski and her merry band of helpers for making this available for our children.

Girls Night Out

You may have seen the posters around the school already, but our P&F are hosting a Girl’s Night Out for all of the St Agnes’ mums and special ladies on Friday 13th May. By all reports, last year’s event was a massive success, so head across to the P&F page for further information and get along for what is sure to be terrific night out.

2022 Fete Final Profit

On behalf of the Fete Committee, I am pleased to announce that the final profit for the 2022 Fete is a massive $28,290. This is significantly up from the 2019 Fete and is great reward for effort for all who were involved. Again, thank you to all members of the Fete Committee and school/parish families who donated goods, services and time for the benefit of our students. We are currently pricing and reviewing new chairs to replace the current ‘swivel wheelies’ we have in our classrooms. This will significantly help for our students in maintaining focus and attention during learning time.

Winter uniform

The children will need to be in full winter uniform from Monday 9th May. Until this time, the children may wear either summer or winter uniform. The uniform is available for purchase from Noone and some items may be available at the Second Hand Uniform Shop. See the Uniform Shop section of this newsletter for second hand uniform shop open days and the Noone uniform shop price list.

Following is a list of the uniform requirements for Winter:

Boys - Winter

Long navy school trousers or navy shorts with long navy socks

Blue long sleeved shirt, tucked in

Navy school jumper or bomber jacket with school logo

Black leather school shoes

Navy blue school socks

Girls - Winter

Navy tunic with blue and maroon

Blue shirt – long sleeved

Navy school bomber jacket with school logo

Black leather school shoes

Navy tights or navy long socks

The burgundy/maroon spray jacket is to be worn as an outer garment over the school jumper or bomber jacket for extra warmth. It is not to be worn on it’s own. A reminder that the bomber jacket is transitioning to be worn only as part of the Sports Uniform in 2023.

Morning Routine and Drop off time

Each morning our school grounds and classrooms are open from 8.30am. Students are expected to head into classrooms upon arrival at school to set up for the day. Students are not to be dropped off at school before 8.30am because the playground is not supervised. The school’s duty of care for our students commences at 8.30am and concludes at 3.45pm. If parents require before and after school care, please contact Extend to make these arrangements.

NAPLAN 2022 - Online

In the week of Monday 9th May, our Year 3 and 5 students will sit NAPLAN Online. This is the first time our students have completed this testing online as we are part of the last wave of the online rollout across the nation. All tests are completed using the school’s Chromebooks, with the exception of Year 3 Writing which is handwritten. The Year 3 and 5 students will complete the following tests:

  • Writing - Tuesday 10th May
  • Reading - Wednesday 11th May
  • Conventions of Language - Wednesday 11th May
  • Numeracy - Thursday 12th May

It is expected that all students complete NAPLAN assessments. Results will be received around September and an individual report will be provide to families displaying your child’s achievement. Please click here, for parent information regarding NAPLAN in 2022.
