Hampton Park Progress Association Gala Ball

On the 1st of September, the Hampton Park Progress Association hosted their annual Gala Night at Arthur Wren Hall. It was an elegant night with musical entertainment and guest speakers such as Judith Graley.

The Gala included inspiring speeches from important people all around the community and the whole event was filmed as a part of the community movie.

This night is an opportunity to present awards to the people who have made an impact in the Hampton Park community. This included two students from our College, Samara Hart from Year 12 and Felicity Junaidy from Year 11.

To qualify for their award, the students had to have overcome obstacles in their lives and be a shining example of what young people can achieve when they believe in themselves and find hope and help in times of hardship. They were nominated by the school for an award to celebrate their continued commitment to inspire others and overcome adversity.

Felicity and Mara attended the event with Ms Dennis and their families, and it was an excellent opportunity to celebrate these two amazing young ladies and all the wonderful things they do at our College and in the community.

To say that Samara and Felicity and their respective families were proud is an understatement. And to add to their celebrations, both students have communicated that they are incredibly grateful for how many teachers have been commending them for their award! Thank you all so much.

Additionally, thanks must go to Trace Logonder and Claire Bartlett in the General Office for helping with the administrative side of the applications. Without them, this student leadership recognition would not have happened. Thank you both.

Student Voice Attitudes to School Survey Student Forum

Over the last fortnight, our students voice team have participated in an Attitudes to School Survey student forum, and followed up by presenting their findings to staff in our Thursday afternoon staff meeting.

82 students worked through more than 10 pages of student survey data and graphs to explore what were the most significant results. The survey is structured along two key FISO categories – excellence in teaching and learning, and a positive climate for learning.

Following the forum where students analysed the data, a small group of representatives from our Years 7-12 Student Voice team (19 volunteers who formed the sub-group of presenters) used the ATSS data the whole team analysed, to select what they thought were the most important or interesting points to share with staff.

These students prepared resources and speeches, and presented to more than 120 staff. There presentation was clear, and informative. Following their pre-session nerves, the students left the staff meeting extremely excited not only about what they had achieved, but excited about their conversations they had with staff, and excited for their future with us here at HPSC.

Staff were highly engaged and finished the session writing goals – based on the student feedback. This example of strong student voice is a good sign of things to come from our student leaders. I look forward to seeing how much the students improve next time they present to staff!

HPSC 4C's Performance

On Thursday 30th August 2018, 26 students from our Hampton Park school community performed as part of the 4Cs showcase at the Belgrave Heights Convention Centre.

Standing for ‘Cultivating Creative Cultures within Communities’, the 4Cs event featured 20 minute multicultural performances from ten schools within the local south-east area.

Our students worked hard for over four months to create their Samoan and Cook Island cultural music and dance segments, which they performed to a very enthusiastic and supportive audience on the night. The audience included many Hampton Park students, teachers, and family members of the performers.

The following students must be acknowledged for the dedication they showed to rehearsing and applauded for their spectacular performances at the showcase:
