Classroom News - Year 1

Literacy

We have been very busy with InitiaLit- practising both reading and spelling our tricky words. We are also doing lots of writing; focusing on writing 'super sentences' and our handwriting. The past two weeks have included year 1 writing a recount and a persuasive text on what animal would make a great pet. The children have been demonstrating great improvement in both their reading and writing.

Science and Technology

We have just begun our new unit about living things. We have started by identifying living and non living things and will move on to categorizing various living things. As part of this we will be investigating how different environments allow animals to grow and thrive.   

Maths

Our Maths topic for year 1 is multiplication and division.On Fridays we have been taking year 1 across to the paddock for Fun Friday Maths where we have been incorporating maths concepts into games and sport. Children have been having fun being active whilst still working hard on developing their maths skills.
