Classroom News - Year 2

Harmony Day

We will be celebrating Harmony Day this week. The children have been invited to wear something ORANGE with their normal school uniform on Thursday. We will be completing harmony Day Activities in the classroom. 2F will be presenting a Harmony Day Themed Assembly on Friday at 2.40pm. Hope to see you there!

Our Father Prayer

The children have been given a copy of "The Lords Prayer" (Our Father) to take home and practise. This is part of the expected formal prayers that the children are meant to learn, and forms part of their work on learning about Images of God, and taking time to talk to God. It would be great if you could help them learn this prayer by heart. We will be testing them individually as part of their Assessment for Religion.

Family History

Our History Unit is called, "Families: Past and Present." As part of the unit of work we are looking at our own families, and the children have been invited to bring in a family photo to share. We will also be looking at Family Trees, and we will send home a Family Tree sheet for you to help your child complete next week. As well, we will be talking about Family stories... just stories that your family like to share, or some traditions that your family always do, eg spend Easter at Copeton Dam. We are  hoping to ask some Grandparents to come in and talk to the children about when they were young. Any suggestions?

Big Write

The children are embracing our Big Write sessions, and their writing is beginning to show the influence of Vinny Vocabulary with WOW words, and Penny Punctuation with great use of exclamation marks, and of course our favourite... the ellipsis!

We have completed our work on Recounts, and now we will begin to develop our Narrative writing skills. We will be looking at the work of Quentin Blake and Roald Dahl as we examine how an interesting story is written. The children have been invited to bring in any of their favourite Roald Dahl books to share with the class. We look forward to some very interesting stories!

Golf

The children have really been enjoying our Golf sessions with Mr Andrew Walkley. Many of them have indicated that they would like to take this up as their sport! These sessions are on Mondays, so don't forget that the children need to wear their Sports uniform on these days.Check out our photo gallery. It really is a lot of fun!
