Young Archie 2019 competition

The Archibald Prize was the first major prize for portraiture in Australian art and continues to be the most prestigious portrait competition in Australia.

The Art Gallery of New South Wales invites budding artists between the ages of 5 and 18 to submit a portrait for the Young Archie 2019 competition. The portrait must be of a person who is special to you – someone who is known to you and who knows you and plays a significant role in your life.

Beginning in 2013, this annual competition is judged by the Gallery’s community engagement manager and a guest judge, based on merit and originality. As well as online, all finalists are displayed at the Art Gallery of NSW held in conjunction with the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes exhibition.

Two Koonung Secondary College students have worked hard to complete their entries for the prize outside of regular class time but with the help of Ms McLellan. They both are amazing portraits and we wish them well in the competition.
