What you may not know...

Cows Create Careers @ TCC
To begin our Cows Create Careers program we received two Holstein Friesian heifers from Mr Rodney Lattimore, a local dairy farmer in the Manning Valley. He was able to inform us on how to take care of the calves, careers in the Dairy Industry and his personal opinion of life on a dairy farm. Once the calves arrived we had a team discussion and settled to name them Roberta and Juliet.
Soon after, we were required to take part in the “Cows Create Careers Competition”. We had to construct in groups of 3-5 a 3D model, video advertisement, brochure or PowerPoint presentation on a chosen part of the Dairy Industry. Along with our presentation we had to write two letters, one each to Mr Ian Halliday and Mr Rodney Lattimore telling them about our experiences and progress on our Cows Create Careers journey with our two poddy calves.
Whilst Roberta and Juliette have been in our care for the past 6 weeks, we have seen a dramatic change in their weight, health and behaviour. When they first arrived into our agriculture program they were very timid and nervous around human contact. After spending quality time with the calves each day they became more playful, relaxed and cheeky.
Throughout our experience we received help and information from other dairy farmers and Stephen Brown who is an artificial inseminator from No Bull. Steven Brown attended one of our agriculture lessons where he taught us about artificial insemination which has helped to further our knowledge and interests in herd reproduction.
We would like to thank Dairy Australia and Maxcare for providing us with the opportunity to have such a hands on learning opportunity.
Classic Quotes...
from a Kindergarten student :)
'you know it is Mr Reed that is giving kids head lice.'
When asked why he thinks it is Mr Reed he said 'it's suspicious that Mr Reed is always the first to know, he must know because he has got them.' hahaha
