What's happening in the classroom??

Visit from Mrs Pheiffer
Kindy had a visit from Mrs Pheiffer yesterday Monday 24 September, who talked to us about being a vet. She told us lots of important things that vets do to help our pets. Mrs Pheiffer even brought in some cuddly helpers to help explain some of the amazing things she does. Thanks so much Mrs Pheiffer.
Mr Day away marking HSC, Year 9/10 Music... miss him ;)
2B Busy in the classroom
Using Art Maker on the iPads to create a beach scene. This links to our learning on Wet and Dry Environments.
2B had a video call with a school in Hong Kong. This linked to our learning in Wet and Dry Environments. We found out lots about living in a big city and the weather there. We prayed for the children, as a typhoon is approaching this weekend.
The first two days of Term 3 were busy as 2B engaged in learning. We wrote procedures about how to make and use sensory tubs, learning about arrays in Mathematics and exploring push and pull forces in Science.
2B Celebration of Learning
Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4) teachers on a scout for scales
Primary school getting support from Secondary teachers and having fun while going about their general day.... an email request that went around...
Forgive the intrusion of your inbox if this doesn’t apply to you.
Stage 2 will be learning about Mass next week and will need to acquire some scales to weigh various objects throughout the week. Who can raise their hands and help us fulfil our teaching hearts desires?

Year 10 Science - Mousetrap Car
Building mousetrap cars in Science was an interesting experience. It was a great way to learn about the design process and the principles of physics. It was fun to design a car and test it to see what needed improving or changing. It was quite challenging and my car did not work at all but it was a fun experience.
Eleanor Ovey
This term in science we built a mousetrap-powered car. I enjoyed trying to find alternative designs, (whether they worked or not) and finding out more about the physics behind cars and the powers that move them. Being able to get hands on with the experiment and build the car ourselves really engaged the whole class and everyone worked together, swapping and lending materials, as well as advice. I had a lot of fun this term, as did the rest of the class.
Joshua Zasso
In science this term we had to build a car powered by a mousetrap. We had to do all the design, building, and testing by ourselves. It was an interesting task and I got to learn about design and testing. Having done it I think I know more about the process of creating something and tracking our progress. Like most things our first design didn’t work but once we sat down and discussed how to improve it we got a design that worked effectively. I really enjoyed this topic because it was something new and different, and it taught me a lot about how to do things in life.
Charlotte Creighton
Most of this term in year ten science we have been designing and building a mousetrap car. We have been in charge of our own design and also charge of the building section. We have chosen our groups and had to choose the type of car to build, slow long distance or short fast cars. We had a budget of $10 but recycled materials is for free. After design phase is over we start the build phase. After the final wheels are put on we had race day. We were in the MPC. For the fast cars we had a 3m distance and for the long distance we placed the cart on the base line and let them go.

The scarecrow that was entered in the Killabakh Day in the Country, his name is 'Bob'
Kindergarten had the help of Year 9/10 Food Tech to make pancakes and gingerbread men to represent the roles of our muscles and bones and how the muscles and bones need each other. The muscles (the pancakes) would collapse without the strong sturdy support of the bones (the gingerbread men).
Mr Dawson (from Secondary) teaching the class all about bones and muscles :)
Visual Arts
All of our dedicated Visual Arts students have been working hard in the art rooms on a variety of tasks. Here are just a few snapshots of what happened in Term 3.
Year 7 have exercised their imaginations by making their own stop motion animations using plasticene puppets. The claymations were based on stories that revolved around what it means to be a leader or to make a friend. Some storyboards included little yellow ducks working together to foil a hungry crocodile and an alien soccer team needing to learn to work together (despite their differences) to win gold.
Year 8 worked on their Pop Art design skills as they rescaled (and sometimes reshaped) a food item to be made out of clay.
Year 9 and 10 explored the differences between abstraction and realism in sculpture. This included them creating casts of their own hands and carvings of organic forms from aerated concrete.
Year 12 finished their major bodies of works ready for NESA to mark in October/November. The following three oil paintings are called Divine Council by Savannah Clements.
And during lunchtimes, many students worked on a large school mosaic to be installed outside of the Information Services Centre later on in the year.
Thank you for all for your hard work students. The art works are looking great!
