We have had a busy two weeks on the Farm with a number of activities occurring, but most notably our annual Open Day. Apart from the obvious amount of rain that fell in the morning, the day overall was a huge success. Our trainers and students have been busy preparing for the last few weeks and were proud to show off the learning environments that each hub operates under. A special thanks to all of our trainers, staff and students who assisted in making this day a huge success.
AI Program
Mr Millichamp and Mr Dunlop have been busy with the annual AI Program at Beef with some early starts mustering cattle into the yards. Farm West have been invaluable with their service and the training they have provided to students rostered onto Beef over this timeframe.
Certificate III
Last week I emailed a number of parents and had discussions with students regarding their Certificate III in Agriculture progress. Mr Watt and I have had similar discussions about a number of students progress and how best to support them. I am pleased to say that half of this group have made substantial progress over the last week and are now in a good position.
On Wednesday I handed out a student Farm matrix to each student enrolled in the Certificate III in Agriculture. It would be good if parents could ask their child for a copy of this as it will be the basis of any discussions that may be required.
Employment Opportunity at CBH
I have had contact from CBH this week and they are keen on employing Year 12 students later in the year for the annual harvest. When I spoke with students who worked with CBH last year there was a lot of positive comments on salary rates and conditions. I will hopefully be in a position to provide more details to students interested over the next school term. I can only assume that early indications are for a good season and CBH are preparing their workforce early this year.
