Dear Parents/Carers, Families and College Community

My thanks to all staff and students who made our recent Open Day such a success. My thanks also to those families who braved the weather to join us on the day. We had almost 1100 visitors,  which given the weather was amazing.

In all conversations I had, visitors were happy and very impressed with the facilities and learning opportunities on offer and the few survey responses were all positive. Arguably more importantly than structures, are our students and staff who impressed visitors with their positive, polite and professional manner. Open Day is a great opportunity to showcase who we are, what we do and it is no wonder we feel immensely proud of being part of such a great school.

Some of the comments from visitors about what they liked about the Open Day included;

  • Very impressed with the facility: both buildings and equipment. Beautiful scenery and delightfully friendly and informative staff and students.
  • Very informative.  Students helpful and professional. Very impressive display.
  • Positiveness of students and staff.
  • Friendly staff, students and parents of students.
  • Interacting with teachers, students, staff. Animals at the College.
  • Delicious food.

Naturally there were some suggestions about how we can improve the day which we will take on as part of our planning for next year.

COVID Responses

Recently we have been able to make some adjustment to our COVID responses that have been in place since early last year. The main change has arisen from a shift in Health Department views of COVID transmission between adults and children in schools and the ability for us to have a single sitting for lunch in the dining room, rather than the split sittings we have been operating. This improves socialisation, timeliness and communication.

We are maintaining staff serving food where there is the opportunity for contamination but returning to condiments and water on tables, and hot drinks at morning tea. These measures depend on students and staff sanitising on their way into the dining room and are subject to change if the COVID landscape in WA changes.

All of our other practices with regards additional sanitising and allocating showers and toilets to residential students will remain in place for now.

Sea Trek

The two Sea Trek groups crossed over in Geraldton last night with the first group returning to the College later today. By all accounts it was enjoyed by all, except perhaps the first night in Denham where they “enjoyed” a rainy night in swags. The second group will head to Denham today and be out on the water tomorrow.

Closed Weekend

Friday this week is the students day off in lieu of working on Open Day.  I hope that everyone has an enjoyable and safe long weekend.

REMINDER - Tuesday 8 June will operate as a Monday timetable so this will impact on what  uniform the students wear.

Have a great weekend.
