News from the Library

There is a book for everybody!

The Library Team together with the English department are beginning to introduce NoveList, a program designed to assist students with their book choices. This week we have introduced Pace.  Pace is the rate at which a story unfolds for the reader and can be thought of in three different ways:

  • Fast-paced - Events in these exciting stories unfold rapidly, moving the reader quickly through the story. One example is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
  • Intensifying - These stories gradually build in momentum throughout the story, resulting in a gripping conclusion. Think Dune by Frank Herbert
  • Leisurely paced - Due to descriptive language, focus on detail, or careful development of character or setting, these stories unfold slowly, allowing the reader to savour the narrative. Some novels include Anne of Green Gables, and War and Peace

In addition to developing students’ book selection skills, the program encourages students to reflect on and extend their own writing skills.

NEW BOOKS!

The Library staff have been busy getting lots of new books ready for borrowing. Many of them align with the new Year 9 and 10 English electives, others have been student and staff requests. Students are encouraged to come in and have a browse – the next favourite book, author or genre is waiting to be discovered.

Artisan of the Month

The March Artisan of the Month is open for submissions until Monday 15th March. Details can be found on Compass and the Library Teams page – Artisan of the Month channel.

All past entries and winners, including those from last month, can be seen in the AotM Gallery tab in the same channel. It is well worth clicking in and having a browse – a wide range of talents drawn from both students and staff are on display.

The competition is open every month, so if you are not ready to submit this month start thinking about what you might like to create and enter later in the year.
