Individual Learning Plans – 2021

To align with our Developmental Teaching and Learning Framework there will be significant changes to our Individual Learning Plan process. Our developmental approach to Teaching and Learning has changed the way we provide Individual Learning Plans to students with learning needs.  Essentially, this shift in how we assess means that all students will have an ILP as we will be able identify where every student is in their learning and what the next step in their learning is.  Using both the Continuum of Learning and Developmental Rubrics; teachers, students, and parents will be able to see learning progression in real time and know what the next step of development is.

The new process:

  1. Learner Profiles - all students who require an ILP

All students who require an ILP will have a Learner Profile, and this will be pinned to the Compass profile of the student. The Learner Profile is a collation of information that we receive from a range of different sources including transition information from primary schools, external assessments, parent concerns/information and teacher concerns/information.  In addition to this information, suggested strategies and modifications will be provided to support both teachers and students in the classroom.

2. Developmental Rubrics – year 7 and 11 students

In every Unit of Learning or Area of Study, teachers will identify where students are in their learning and target their teaching to meet the needs of their students. These assessment checkpoints will be visible on the Developmental Rubrics that can be accessed by parents, teachers, and students. These Developmental Rubrics are individual learning plans that show where students are in their learning and what the next granular step of development is.

3. Bridging ILPs – year 8, 9, 10 and 12 students

As our school transitions fully to using Developmental Rubrics, our years 8, 9, 10 and 12 students will have a bridging ILP to detail what the learning intentions and success criteria are for their students with individual learning needs.

FAQs

Q. What are Developmental Rubrics?

Developmental Rubrics map the skills/knowledge for every Unit of Learning (7-10)/ Area of Study (VCE) from level 5 on the Victorian Curriculum to level 10 on the Victorian Curriculum. Teachers will be using these assessment tracking tools to show where students are at the beginning of the Unit and as the student demonstrates evidence of the skills/knowledge, their growth will be tracked on the Developmental Rubric.

Q. How are students who require an ILP identified?

Students are identified in a range of different ways. Our wellbeing team will identify students who require an ILP and will communicate this information to teachers.

  • Aboriginal/Torres Straight Island background
  • Out of home care
  • PSD funded
  • Learning Issue
  • Educational Assessments
  • Teacher/Parent concern
  • Literacy/Numeracy intervention
  • Transition information from primary school

Q. Do identified students require an ILP for every subject?

Indigenous students, Out of home care students and PSD funded students will have an ILP for every subject. All other students who require an ILP will have one for Maths, English, Humanities and Science subjects.
