Wellbeing

Isabella (5G) and Sofia (Prep OP) buddy lunch

Next week is Wellbeing Week at BBPS – students will be engaging in daily activities revolving around our GEM focus for term 1 – gratitude.

As part of this week-long celebration, our students will meet again with their multi-age friendship groups and enjoy lunch together. Please note, students need to bring their own lunch as normal. Students will not be provided with, or allowed, to share food with others – as per our Anaphylaxis Policy, available on the school website. The purpose of these lunches is to continue to support our students to build relationships with students across the school.

Check out our CURRICULUM section of the newsletter – this week we share the slideshow from our Parent Expo session:  Social and Emotional Learning – Positive Friendships. This session detailed how we (and you at home) can further support your child to build positive friendships and solve problems in the playground when they inevitably arise. Many thanks to Paloma Ellis-Vega, Anoushka Prockiw, Georgie Hellier, Daphne Fourniotis and Tasleem Sahib for facilitating this session.

COVID IMPACT: Our Prep team are currently participating in a year long professional development program facilitated by the DET focused on play based inquiry learning in the early years of school. The premise behind this program is the consideration schools now need to take in 2021 based on the possible impact of COVID and lockdown experiences of our young people. At BBPS we are constantly observing and tuning into our students and their mental health and wellbeing.

If you are interested in knowing more about the disruptive impact of COVID-19 on Australian children and their families, read this free report  A Lasting Legacy (Australian Childhood Foundation, 2020). It is an interesting read that describes some of the key trends and observations of parents during our experiences last year.

If you feel your child may need further support in processing some of his/her experiences of last year, OnPsych support services conducts sessions from our school on a Thursday. Please contact Kim Ancrum should you wish you engage in this free counselling service.
